About ISO 9001
ISO 9001 is defined as the international standard that specifies requirements for a quality management system (QMS). Organizations use the standard to demonstrate the ability to consistently provide products and services that meet customer and regulatory requirements.
What is IATF 16949?
The IATF 16949 is an industrial quality standard that requires that you as a company describe and record your business and production processes. That way you can make what you promise and deliver what the customer wants. And, importantly: continuously working on improvements.
Just describing what you do as a company, as is done with the ISO 9001 standard, is not enough. That is why the International Automotive Task Force came up with a technical specification on ISO 9001 in 2016. They called this the ISO TS 16949. In 2016, it was changed to the IATF 16949.
